The Virginia Phosphorus Index (P-Index) is a field-level assessment tool that integrates soil, management, environmental, and hydrologic (transport) characteristics to estimate the relative risk of phosphorus (P) losses through erosion, surface runoff and subsurface transport to water bodies.  To download a Microsoft Excel 2000© spreadsheet for calculation of the P-Index, or the Virginia P-Index Technical Guide (Adobe Reader© format), click the appropriate text below. For questions about the P-Index, contact Mary Leigh Wolfe (540/231-6092 mlwolfe@vt.edu). For questions about the spreadsheet or this web page, contact Jim Pease (540/231-4178 peasej@vt.edu.)
